50. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Health, in view of the number of mentally deficient children in the County of Essex who are urgently in need of institutional accommodation and care but for whom beds are not available and who are therefore causing distress in their homes, if he will give special attention to this problem in order to assist the Essex County Health Authority speedily to ensure that such children shall be placed in appropriate institutions.

Miss Pitt

Eighty additional beds for mentally subnormal children have recently been built at South Ockendon Hospital. Patients will be admitted as soon as these have been equipped and staffed.
