§ Mr. A. Lewisasked the Minister of State for Commonwealth Relations whether he is aware that in Pretoria, South Africa, on 24th March, 1959, four missionary Englishwomen were taken from their beds in the early hours of the morning and were subjected to great inconvenience and personal abuse without having committed any offence; and whether he will protest to the Government of South Africa.
§ Mr. AlportI have seen Press reports about the search of the Tumelong Anglican Mission at Pretoria which was made by the South African police on 24th March. According to these reports the police had a warrant to search the Mission. I have received no information to confirm that any of the ladies in question were subjected to personal abuse, nor has the United Kingdom High Commissioner in the Union of South Africa received any complaint from them.
