HC Deb 21 March 1960 vol 620 cc9-10W
49. Mr. W. R. Williams

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the concern felt by Manchester Corporation's health department, family doctors, and midwives working in the heavily congested areas of the City regarding the inadequate maternity services now available; and what urgent action he proposes to take.

Miss Pitt

I am aware that there is concern about the number of maternity beds in the City and surrounding districts. One hundred and twenty-six additional maternity beds are included in building projects now being planned, and the regional hospital board will be proposing further additions when it has completed a review of the maternity services in the area.
