§ Mr. Grimondasked the Minister of Transport what response he has had from the highway authorities regarding road space by reducing unnecessarily wide pavements.
§ Mr. MarplesI have recently made grants for improvements of this kind in Earls Court Road at its junction with Cromwell Road and in Great George Street, Westminster, and I expect to authorise shortly a large scheme for widening Wandsworth Road, near Nine Elms station. Smaller widenings are also carried out from time to time by the highway authorities concerned, and I encourage them with grants when I can.
