§ 59. Mr. A. J. Irvineasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what pro- 24W posals he has for authorising his inspectors to settle planning appeals on the spot, when both parties express willingness for this to be done.
§ Mr. H. BrookeI am anxious to speed up the handling of planning appeals; but I am at present concentrating on improving the administrative arrangements. The procedure suggested by the hon. and learned Member would require amendment of the law. I am not in any event convinced that to delegate to an official the responsibility for even minor planning decisions—which can be very important to the persons affected— would be appropriate.
