§ Mr. A. Hendersonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will instruct his representative at the United Nations Organisation to propose the invitation of the Republic of China to attend the Conference on the Law of the Sea, opening in Geneva on 17th 2W March, in view of China's direct interest in the law of the sea by virtue of her coastal waters.
§ Mr. Selwyn LloydAttendance at the Conference has been determined by the United Nations General Assembly, which decided that invitations were to be issued only to members of the United Nations and the specialised agencies. As regards the difference of opinion on who should represent China in the United Nations, the views of Her Majesty's Government are well known and I would refer the right hon. and learned Gentle-man to the reply given to the hon. and learned Gentleman the Member for Aberdeen, North (Mr. Hector Hughes) on 1st February.
