§ 2. Mr. Awberyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he is aware that the Thirteenth Assembly Session of the United Nations Organisation requested the High Commissioner for Refugees to continue his action on behalf of the Algerian refugees in Tunisia on a substantial scale; how much more assistance is now being given to these refugees as compared with a year ago; and how much of it comes direct from the United Kingdom Committee for World Refugee Year organisation.
§ Mr. Selwyn LloydYes. In the fifteen months up to February, 1959, the League of Red Cross Societies spent £625,000 on the relief of refugees from Algeria. In the following eleven months over £2,370,000 in cash or kind has been made available from international sources for their relief.
None of this has come from the Central Fund of the United Kingdom Committee but I understand that the Committee has just made a first allocation of £50,000 for these refugees.
