§ Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that there are differences between Scotland and England in the law relating to the adoption of children, namely, that in Scotland adopted children are not 17W entitled as of right, as they are in England, to inherit property, on the intestacy of their adopted parents, and that this is an anomaly which inflicts hardship on adopted children in Scotland; and if he will now take steps to remove this anomaly.

§ Mr. MaclayI am aware of the differences between the laws of England and Scotland relating to the succession rights of adopted children. This is one of the matters that I am considering with a view to legislation to amend the law of succession in Scotland.
