§ Mr. Braineasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what arrangements are being made for payments to the Governments of Somaliland and of Somalia in accordance with the undertakings already announced by Her Majesty's Government.
§ Mr. ProfumoAs the House is aware, Her Majesty's Government have undertaken to give £100,000 in economic aid for Somalia and £1,500,000 as aid for Somaliland during the first year of36W independence. Provision for the sums required in the current financial year will be made in the Summer Supplementary Estimates shortly to be presented to Parliament. In the meantime advances will be made from the Civil Contingencies Fund in order that the first quarterly instalments of these grants may be paid as soon as the two countries become independent.
