HC Deb 22 June 1960 vol 625 cc37-8W
49. Mr. Awbery

asked the Minister of Labour what evidence he has that apprenticeship schemes are not being conducted in all cases according to the agreements arrived at between employers, apprentices and parents, respectively; and, in view of the need to expand apprenticeship and maintain a high standard of training, if he will investigate this matter.

Mr. P. Thomas

Apprenticeship schemes are drawn up by both sides of industry who are responsible, nationally and locally, for their supervision.

There have been a number of inquiries into this matter since the war and I do not think that a further investigation at this stage would be the best way to expand apprenticeship and improve standards of training.
