§ Mr. Teelingasked the Lord Privy Seal what steps he is taking to make sure that holders of Baltic claims are made aware that a list of such claims is about to be made to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics; roughly how many 227W of such claims have already been registered; what proportion that is of what is considered likely to be the total claims; and whether the claims will be sent to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics before the reassembly of Parliament.
§ Mr. R. AllanThe Foreign Compensation (U.S.S.R.) (Registration) Order, 1959, formed the subject of advertisements and editorial comment in the Press at the time it was made. More recently, efforts have been made through the Council of Foreign Bondholders, Chambers of Commerce and other appropriate bodies to bring the Order to the attention of those likely to have claims eligible for registration. Up to 13th July, 816 claims had been registered it is not possible to estimate how many more applications are likely to be received. As my right hon. and learned Friend said in reply to my hon. Friend on 18th July, the first lists of claims will be sent to the Soviet Government in the near future; but I cannot say precisely when. Further lists will be sent as more claims are registered.
