§ Sir H. Legge-Bourkeasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what contribution the Government are making to the losses incurred by the Potato Marketing Board in their purchasing operations from the 1959 crop in Great Britain.
§ Mr. HareThe Government have agreed to bear two-thirds of the net expenditure incurred by the Board under approved programmes for the purchase of potatoes from the 1959 crop. The exact amount of the Government's contribution to these trading operations cannot yet be finally determined, but it is likely to be of the order of £3.6 million As a result of this assistance to the Board, it is confidently expected that no deficiency will be payable on the 1959 crop.
