It has not been possible in the time available to ascertain which of these children and young persons were remanded before a finding of guilt. The period for which a magistrates' court may remand in custody a person who has not been found guilty of an offence is in general restricted by section 105 (4) of the Magistrates' Courts Act, 1952, to eight clear days.
