Mr. Mathewasked the Minister of Transport. in view of the increasingly 47W heavy traffic on district roads, especially during the summer months in holiday areas, when a number of official detours are arranged by the police to relieve main road traffic, if he will take steps to make contributions towards the upkeep and maintenance of such roads where appropriate.
§ Mr. MarplesI already contribute towards the cost of maintenance of all classified roads in county areas. Nearly all the alternative routes come into that category.
