§ Mr. R. AllanWe do not yet know the exact numbers. The great majority of those who wished to leave have now done so but, in all districts, many have preferred to remain. Throughout the disturbances, Her Majesty's Ambassador in Leopoldville and our Consular Officers in Elisabethville and Stanleyville have been in the closest touch with the authorities to ensure that they took all possible steps to protect British lives and property. I am glad to say that we have received no reports of any loss of British life or of any injury to British subjects. We have not yet received any detailed reports of damage to British property.
