§ 96. Mr. K. Robinsonasked the Minister of Works whether there has been any application to the Historic Buildings Council for a grant in connection with the proposal to dismantle and re-erect the Doric Arch at Euston Station; and with what result.
§ Lord John HopeNo. On 1st July, the London County Council asked whether my Ministry had any powers to make a grant towards the cost of dismantling and re-erecting the Doric Arch at Euston. After taking legal advice, my Department informed the London County Council that neither Section 4 (1) of the Historic Buildings and Ancient Monuments Act, 1953, nor Section 3 (3) of the Ancient Monuments Act, 1931, empowered me to make a grant towards the cost of dismantling and re-erecting the Arch.
