HC Deb 19 July 1960 vol 627 c38W
Mr. Emery

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what contribution Her Majesty's Government are making to the United Nations appeal for food for the Congo.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

I have informed the Secretary-General of the United Nations that subject to Parliamentary approval Her Majesty's Government will provide food to the value of £10,000 to help meet the immediate problem of shortages in the Congo.

Parliament will be asked in due course to vote the money by means of a Supplementary Estimate to the Foreign Office Grants and Services Vote. In the meantime an advance is being obtained from the Civil Contingencies Fund.
