HC Deb 14 July 1960 vol 626 c122W
59. Mr. J. Wells

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is aware of the poor prices being obtained by British strawberry growers owing to the large quantities of strawberries that have been imported; and what steps he intends taking to assist home growers next year.

Mr. Hare

Prices on the fresh fruit market this year have been better than last year but prices of strawberries for manufacturing have been about 25 per cent. lower. I have no evidence of heavy imports this year and the hon. Gentleman will be aware that home growers already have the protection of a tariff on imports of strawberries.
