HC Deb 04 July 1960 vol 626 cc12-4W
Sir F. Markham

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he will give particulars, comparable to those given in Appendix XVI of his Department's Report for 1959 relating to new towns, for the expanded towns of Bletchley and Swindon.

Mr. H. Brooke

No figures can be given for Swindon and Bletchley which are strictly comparable to those given for new towns. New towns and expanding towns are administered and financed differently, and in the case of expanding towns it is not always possible to distinguish between development and expenditure attributable to town expansion and that undertaken or incurred as part of the ordinary functions of the local authorities. The following tables however indicate as far as possible what development at Swindon and Bletchley is attributable to town development and what grant has been paid to the councils.
