HC Deb 26 February 1960 vol 618 c95W
Sir W. Robson-Brown

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will issue statutory regulations requiring all lorries to be fitted with four rear lights on the four extreme points on the back of the lorry, as is the practice in the United States of America and many European countries.

Mr. Marples

In the United States of America and certain other countries large enclosed lorries are used much more extensively than in this country, where the size and shape of lorries and their loads vary very considerably. It would therefore be difficult if not impossible to light the upper extremities of them all, but I will have my hon. Friend's suggestion examined.
