HC Deb 26 February 1960 vol 618 c96W
Dr. A. Thompson

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the deleterious effects of diesel fumes, particularly on people suffering from bronchitis, he will introduce legislation to check this form of air pollution by vehicles.

Mr. Marples

The law already provides that every motor vehicle must be so constructed that no avoidable smoke or visible vapour is emitted. The law also makes it an offence to emit smoke or vapour if this causes or is likely to cause damage to property or injury to any person or is likely to cause danger to any person on a road.
