§ Mr. K. Lewisasked the Minister of Health if he will consider whether it is possible to encourage the development of private medicine alongside the National Health Service by enabling those persons who wish to pay for their own doctor and drugs to contract out of the National Health contribution, on condition that such persons do not use a doctor who is wholly or almost wholly engaged in National Health Service practice.
§ Mr. Walker-SmithI do not think this would be a desirable or practicable method of achieving the object my hon. Friend has in mind.
