Mr. Edenasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will state the amount of Customs Revenue in 1957–58 from port wine and Spanish sherry when the duty on heavy wines last stood at 50s. per gallon; and how this compares with the latest available figures since the duty was reduced to 38s. per gallon in the 1958 Budget.
§ Mr. BarberNet receipts of duty from port wine and from Spanish sherry in the financial year 1957–58 were approximately £3.6 million and £7.7 million, respectively. The figures for the calendar year 1959 are approximately £2.8 million and £6.8 million, respectively.
