§ 54. Mr. Swinglerasked the Minister of Health if he will speed up a decision on the scheme submitted by the Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council through the Staffordshire County Council, pursuant to section 47 (1) of the Local Government Act, 1958, for the delegation of health and welfare functions, so that the scheme, as approved, may come into operation on 1st April, 1960.

§ Miss PittMy right hon. and learned Friend has asked the two councils for their comments on a number of modifications to the delegation scheme which he proposes. If these are received shortly, I hope it will be possible for the scheme to operate on 1st April.
