§ 22. Mr. A. E. Cooperasked the Minister of Education what is the estimated shortage of teachers for all grades in the county of Essex, and particularly within the borough of Ilford; and what steps are being taken to meet this deficiency.
§ Sir D. EcclesLast month the authority was 443 teachers short of its quota of 11,013. I do not fix quotas for different parts of an authority's area, but I understand that Ilford was only a few teachers short of the number allocated by the authority. In addition to measures to increase the general supply of teachers, I shall continue to do all I can to help individual authorities to get their proper share of the available teachers.
