asked the Minister of Education if he will publish a table of figures showing the total number of pupils in secondary modern schools and the number entered for the General Certificate of Education examination in 1959 in each county and county borough of England and Wales.

One hundred and six authorities entered 15,440 secondary modern school candidates for Ordinary level of the General Certificate of Education examination in the summer of 1959. The total number of pupils in secondary modern schools in January, 1959, was 1,595,559. I am sending the hon. Member the detailed figures.
