§ 65. Mr. Swinglerasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if his attention has been drawn to a pamphlet, "The Kariba Hydro-Electric Scheme", issued 112W by the Central Office of Information in November, 1959, in which it is said that the development of the Kariba Lake will be put in the hands of a company in place of the Kariba Lake Co-ordinating Committee; and if he is satisfied that African rights in and around the lake will not thereby be endangered.
§ Mr. J. AmeryI have seen the pamphlet. My right hon. Friend's responsibility in this matter is confined to Northern Rhodesia. The Northern Rhodesia, Southern Rhodesia and Federal Governments are considering the functions of the proposed company and I am satisfied that African interests will be closely watched in these discussions.
