HC Deb 02 February 1960 vol 616 c116W
87. Mr. J. Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in view of the pending establishment of a large tractor and heavy vehicle manufacturing plant at Bathgate, West Lothian, and the consequent substantial increase in road traffic in the area, he will expedite the dual carriageway proposals for trunk road A.8 and revise them so that this arterial highway between Edinburgh and Glasgow becomes Scotland's first motorway.

Mr. Maclay

The British Motor Corporation's decision to develop at Bathgate has important highway implications which my Department and West Lothian County Council are examining urgently. It is too soon to say how our plans for A.8 may be affected.
