HC Deb 02 February 1960 vol 616 cc120-1W
Mr. Braine

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will now make a relaxation in the arrangements which were announced on 9th December, 1958, in connection with the remission of duty on those instruments and apparatus covered by Section 6 of the Import Duties Act, 1958.

Mr. Maudling

In the light of a year's experience, we can make some relaxation in these arrangements and will, in future, be prepared to consider applications for remission of duty in respect of instruments and apparatus where the amount of duty is £20 or more instead of £50 or more. To simplify administration, the same minimum limit of £20 duty will also be applied to applications covering parts for instruments and apparatus. Full details of the arrangements are being published today.
