HC Deb 02 February 1960 vol 616 c122W
Colonel Sir L. Ropner

asked the Minister of Transport by what date he expects British Railways to run without loss.

Mr. Marples

The British Transport Commission estimates that it should achieve, by about the end of 1963, a working surplus which can resonably be put at between £50 million and £100 million. This assessment is contained in the Commission's Reappraisal of its Modernisation Plan (Cmnd. 813) which is at present under study by the Government.
