HC Deb 21 December 1960 vol 632 c160W
45. Mr. A. Lewis

asked the Prime Minister why he will not inform Dr. Adenauer that Her Majesty's Government will not agree to granting to West German troops bases, training facilities, and barrack room accommodation in Great Britain.

Mr. R. A. Butler

I have been asked to reply.

The Federal German Government are our allies in N.A.T.O. and Her Majesty's Government are therefore prepared to assist by providing depôts and training facilities in this country if studies by the N.A.T.O. authorities and ourselves reveal that this is a practical and sensible requirement in the interests of the alliance.
