HC Deb 21 December 1960 vol 632 c156W
47. Mr. Skeffington

asked the Minister of Transport whether he has considered a proposal submitted by Hayes and Harlington Urban District Council that white stop lines should be marked three yards on each side of pedestrian crossings so as to reduce the danger of accidents and give greater confidence to walkers; and what reply he has sent.

Mr. Hay

Yes. The council's attention has been drawn to paragraph 23 of the Highway Code and to the rule which prohibits parking on the approach to pedestrian crossings. We are not satisfied that the council's proposal would in fact lead to greater safety.
