HC Deb 21 December 1960 vol 632 c194W
Mr. Speir

asked the Minister of Works whether in view of the large number of patients at St. Thomas's hospital who have complained of being disturbed at night by the striking of Big Ben, he will arrange for it to stop striking between midnight and six a.m.

Lord John Hope

While I have seen a report in the Press that about one fifth of the patients approached included the striking of Big Ben during the night among the sources of noise which disturbed them, I have received no request to silence the clock from the hospital authorities.
