HC Deb 06 December 1960 vol 631 cc130-1W
57. Dr. Dickson Mabon

asked the Prime Minister, in view of his acceptance of responsibility for the safety and security of the proposed Polaris missile submarine base in Holy Loch, when it is proposed to set up a National Radioactive Waste Disposal Service under the Radioactive Substances Act, 1960.

The Prime Minister

I am not sure what the hon. Member has in mind in the first part of his Question. Responsibility for safety and security measures rests, of course, with the two Governments. Naturally, I take a close interest, but the Minister most immediately concerned are my noble Friend the First Lord of the Admiralty and my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland.

So far as the second part of the Question is concerned, I am informed that a National Radioactive Waste Disposal Service will probably be established within a year.
