HC Deb 14 April 1960 vol 621 c180W
Mr. N. McLean

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the continued lack of television and high frequency sound coverage in Lochaber, Skye, and the Small Isles, and in other parts of the Highlands and Islands, is causing irritation and frustration to the people living there and also to visitors; and what are the latest proposals of the British Broadcasting Corporation to improve and extend its television and very high frequency services in these areas.

Mr. Bevins

The British Broadcasting Corporation is proceeding as fast as it can with its first stage plans for television and very high frequency sound stations at Oban, Loch Leven and Fort William. Its proposals for the second stage, which include further satellite stations of both kinds for the Scottish Highlands and Islands, were received in March.
