HC Deb 14 April 1960 vol 621 c174W
Mr. Swingler

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the current rate of annual expenditure per child on primary education in the Seychelles; how this compares with expenditure in other British colonial territories; and what plans exist for allocating greater resources in order to raise the standard of education in the Seychelles.

Mr. Iain Macleod

The rate of recurrent expenditure in 1959 on each child receiving primary education in Seychelles was £5 17s., taking no account of overhead administrative costs. This figure is low in comparision with other British Colonial Territories. Plans for raising the standard of education in Seychelles will be found in paragraphs 145 to 187 of "A Plan for Seychelles", copies of which are in the Library of the House.
