Mr. J. Griffiths

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance if he will state, for the most recent date for which they are available, the number of weekly allowances made by the National Assistance Board in supplementation of retirement pensions, and other benefits under the National Insurance Acts; and what proportion these represented of the total weekly allowances made by the Board.

Miss Hornsby-Smith

At 29th March, 1960, the number of weekly National Assistance grants paid as supplements to retirement pensions and other benefits under the National Insurance Acts was 1,268,000, representing about 70 per cent. of all weekly assistance grants.
