Mr. Kershaw

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what information he has as to the level of United States investment in the United Kingdom during the twelve months ended 31st December, 1959, or the latest convenient date; what are the comparable figures for Canada; what are the comparable figures for investment by the United Kingdom in the United States of America and Canada, respectively; and, in each case, what are the comparable figures for the previous twelve months.

According to information at present available net private long-term investment by the United States in the United Kingdom was about £75 million in 1959 and £60 million in 1958; the corresponding figures for Canada were £15 million and £10 million respectively. United Kingdom net private long-term investment in the Unied States is estimated at £10 million in 1959 and £20 million in 1958, while such investment in Canada was about £30 million in each year.
