HC Deb 05 April 1960 vol 621 c43W
Mr. McInnes

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance the total number of persons in Glasgow at present in receipt of retirement pensions and the number who are having such pensions supplemented by National Assistance; and the average amount of such supplementation.

Miss Hornsby-Smith

Statistics relating to the numbers of retirement pensioners and to the average amount of National Assistance grants are not available for particular areas. At 29th March, 1960, 24,894 weekly National Assistance grants were being paid to retirement pensioners in the City of Glasgow and some adjoining areas also served by the Glasgow offices of the National Assistance Board. Some of the grants provided for a household with more than one pensioner.
