HL Deb 04 April 1960 vol 222 c666WA
LORD DOUGLAS OF BARLOCH

asked Her Majesty's Government to state at the latest convenient date what was the number of persons employed in agriculture in Great Britain (a) whole-time, and (b) part-time and, in the case of the latter, the approximate equivalent in terms of whole-time workers.

EARL WALDEGRAVE

The total number of workers (both male and female) employed on agricultural holdings in Great Britain in December, 1959, was as follows:—

(Thousands)
Regular whole-time workers 479.0
Regular part-time workers 75.6
Temporary or Seasonal workers 68.8

There is no satisfactory method for converting part-time, temporary or seasonal workers into an approximately equivalent number of regular whole-time workers.

House adjourned at one minute before five o'clock.
