HC Deb 26 November 1959 vol 614 c70W
108 and 109. Mr. Mason

asked the Minister of Health (1) if he is aware that the still-birth rate in Barnsley is well above the national average; what is the reason for this; and what steps he intends to take to help the obstetric services of the town.

(2) why a special investigation was made by his Department earlier this year into the high still-birth rate in Barnsley; what it has revealed; and if he will make statement.

Miss Pitt

I am aware that the stillbirth rate in Barnsley is above the national average. Although this may not be significant in view of the small number of births, a number of suggestions for improving the maternity and child welfare services have been made to the local health authority following an informal survey in February of this year.
