HC Deb 26 November 1959 vol 614 c62W
93. Mr. Fitch

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the number of prisons in England and Wales where oil has replaced coal as a fuel for heating purposes, and where it is proposed to replace coal by oil, respectively.

Mr. R. A. Butler

Oil has replaced coal as fuel for heating purposes at six prisons and borstals, and conversion work is in progress at another seven. Plans for conversion at nine other establishments are fairly advanced and the heating arrangements at thirty-three other establishments are under review.
