HC Deb 25 November 1959 vol 614 cc39-40W
Mr. John Hall

asked the Postmaster-General what is the number of subscribers waiting for connection to each of the 14 exchanges serving the Wycombe constituency; what is the waiting list as a percentage of the total subscribers to each exchange; and when it is estimated that the High Wycombe manual exchange will be converted to automatic working.

Mr. Bevins

The figures are as follows:

Waiting List (30th September, 1959) Waiting List as a percentage of total number of subscribers
Beaconsfield 18 0.9
Bourne End 193 12.2
Hampden Row 5 3.8
High Wycombe 135 3.3
Holmer Green 37 9.5
Lane End
Marlow 25 1.5
Naphill 11 3.1
Penn 58 8.8
Princes Risborough 21 2.3
Radnage 25 7.0
Stoke Mandeville 3 0.7
Turvilie Heath 1 0.6

Total 548 4.0

During the last 12 months 1,428 new telephones have been connected to these exchanges.

On present plans, it is hoped to convert the High Wycombe exchange to automatic working in 1964, and meantime the manual exchange is being enlarged. New cable works now in progress include the Bourne End area.
