HC Deb 25 November 1959 vol 614 c50W
Mr. Strachey

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will list the more important common-user items for the supply of which he is now responsible to the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force, respectively.

Mr. Soames

I am at present responsible for supplying to both Services all vehicles, all conventional weapons and ammunition for aircraft, for anti-aircraft defence and for infantry, as well as conventional aircraft bombs and pyrotechnic stores. I am also responsible for supplying the Royal Air Force, and to a more limited extent the Royal Navy, with clothing, except flying clothing, and general stores. These arrangements may be modified in consultation with the other Departments concerned.

The Army's general responsibility for the supply of food, petrol and oil to the other Services will continue.
