HC Deb 18 November 1959 vol 613 cc142-3W
Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he is aware that the rent of a Salford house lacking bath, hot water or inside toilet, was raised from 11s to 19s. under the Rent Act and then, following a change of tenant, to 32s., and that because of the housing shortage similar increases are taking place daily as deaths and removals occur; and if he will give an undertaking to introduce no measures further facilitating decontrol on change of tenancy during the present session.

Mr. H. Brooke

Though the Government are not prepared to alter the law to discourage the reletting of rented accommodation when it falls vacant, they have no intention in this Parliament of legislating to extend the decontrol provisions of Section 11 of the Rent Act.
