HC Deb 18 November 1959 vol 613 c134W
Dr. King

asked the Secretary of State for Air, if he will state the number of applicants for Royal Air Force cadet-ships, and the number who were selected from independent, direct grant, and state grammar schools, respectively, for the latest available period.

Mr. Ward

In 1959, 349 boys applied for R.A.F. cadetships and 128 were selected. Of these 46 came from independent schools, 9 from direct grant schools and 73 from voluntary aided and state maintained schools. These figures exclude candidates from within the Service.
