HC Deb 17 November 1959 vol 613 c112W
76. Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many political prisoners have been released from prison in Singapore during the past three months; how many of them were trade union leaders; how many have never had a trial; and what was the average period of their detention.

Mr. J. Amery

The information available is that during the past three months nine persons detained under the Preservation of Public Security Ordinance were released, of whom four were trade union leaders. The Ordinance makes no provision for trials. The average period of detention was two years and four months.
