HC Deb 16 November 1959 vol 613 cc94-7W
Mr. Tilney

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will state in table form for each £100 of basic pension from £100 per annum to £1,200 per annum how each Government of the Colonies and ex-Colonies has increased the pension to ex-civil servants; and how these increases compare with those given by the Pensions Increase Act of 1959 to civil servants of the United Kingdom.

Mr. Iain Macleod

I am circulating a table in respect of the overseas Governments with which I am concerned other than Malta. I will send the hon. Member the information in respect of Malta as soon as it is available. The attention of these Governments has been drawn to the provisions of the Pensions (Increase) Act, 1959, and they have been asked to consider sympathetically whether any improvements should be made in their own increase schemes in the light of the further increases now being paid in the United Kingdom. The question of increases paid by the Governments of former Dependent Territories and the South African High Commission Territories is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations.

Following is the table:
