HC Deb 12 November 1959 vol 613 cc64-5W
Mr. H. Wilson

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs, if he will state the date on which approval was given to the scheme for rehousing residents of the Maypole Estate, Knowsley, Lancashire, the date he expects to see the first 100 families rehoused, the date for completion of the project, and the reasons for the delay.

Mr. H. Brooke

In April, 1954, Whiston Rural District Council accepted responsibility for the management of this estate and the rehousing of the families in residence. They then had difficulty in finding a suitable site for the rehousing and also in making provision for sewage disposal. A tender for roads and sewers on the new site was approved in October, 1958, and a tender for 302 houses in September, 1959. I understand that the council hopes to rehouse the first 100 families by the end of 1960 and to complete its undertaking in 1963.
