asked the Minister of Education what are his latest figures for the average size of classes in grammar schools and secondary modern schools, respectively, in the excepted district of Newcastle-under-Lyme, and in England and Wales.

Provisional figures for January, 1959, show that the average size of classes in grammar and modern schools in Newcastle-under-Lyme was 28.1 and 28.0. The figures for England and Wales were 28.8 and 31.3.
